"There was something unfair at the heart of the game I loved." Well done, Mr. Rickey.

That catcher to whom Rickey referred, was refused a hotel room when trying to check in with the rest of the Ohio Wesleyan team in South Bend, Indiana. They did allow Rickey to check him in, so he told the player to go up to the room, and he would be there shortly. So Rickey checked in, then headed up to the room. When he opened the door, he found this player crying and wringing his hands, trying to rub the dark color off. He said, "If only I could take the black off." I kinda wish they'd included the whole story in '42.' It is included in Ken Burns' "Baseball" series.

This is my absolute favorite scene in the entire movie.

The player he is speaking of is Charles Thomas, a graduate of Zanesville High School.

Racism is as old and American as baseball. We can’t undo all the damage but the least baseball can do is be a great tool to fix the future. Piece by piece, brick by brick we must destroy this enemy that wouldn’t stay dead 150 years ago, 80 years ago. 60 years ago, today.

Stop tolerating hatred. Stop ignoring people who will have it worse than you will ever know.

I'm from Marcellus, n. y, located about 11 miles west of Syracuse. I've been told that some of the fans of the Syracuse team(the chiefs) that Jackie played against treated him very poorly.

That little white boy he was talking about pretending to be a black player, that reminds me of the character Rudy from “The Book Thief” who was pretending to be Jesse Owens

Why do they chop up the scene? It's the pacing that makes the drama.

Anger and lust has no color. I use it sometimes.

Beautiful and challenging - I pray we do not ignore opportunities to help - he played a Christian College - and Christ used him to change the world.

I know there is Jackie Robinson day in the MLB, but why no Branch Rickey day, he started it.

So, I should celebrate reverse racism?
