Share the Road

Public roads are for all lawful road users!
Watch this video from the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to learn about what it means to "share the road."

Unless otherwise posted, bike riders have the same rights and responsibilities on public roads as car drivers.
A Sharrow (Shared Lane Marking) symbol is to inform motorists and bicyclists that the lane is too narrow for bicyclists and car drivers to operate safely side by side. Even if there is no Sharrow, bicyclists are allowed to ride in the lane to ensure that they are passed legally and safely.
How do you pass a bicyclist safely and legally? Look around, signal your intentions and then pass with a minimum of 3’ clearance.

Following the rules of the road makes travel safer for everyone.

More information can be found by searching for the following California Vehicle Codes: CVC 21202, 21208, 21200

Motor vehicles are required to give bicyclists a five foot distance when passing them. Are bicyclists required to give motor vehicles the same five foot distance when passing the vehicle? My observations are that 90% of bicyclists do not obey stop signs, instead choosing to blow right through the stop signs. More attention to these violations by law enforcement needs to be done to protect people from accidents caused by these violations
