Crossplane inline 4 sounds like a v4 because the enginge fires like a v4 . It is half(one v bank) of a v8 with a crossplane crank.

Flat plane crankshaft are so popular because they are very easy to forge

When I was younger, I used to think all 4 cylinders would opposed at 4 different angles and later found out they are actually opposed in pairs.
My question is, why is this the case?
Even force distribution at the jurnal and crank bearings?
Vibration?

All I know is my 1999 R1 ripped. It was the last year before all the electronics to dumb them down. It was an Easter Sunday in Boston MA at 2 am when I heard the engine start, when I looked out the window I see a guy drive away on it.
