Correction: Pastel was not brought to Brazil by the Japanese (which explains why it doesn't exist in Japan). It was actually created in São Paulo State in the 1940s by Asian immigrants who adapted their original recipes to Brazilian ingredients and tastes.

The first Japanese family to come and live in Brazil was in the late 19th century in the city of Macaé in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The story goes that this family left Japan due to the high taxes that the emperor charged his population, which made Japan a difficult country to live in. They went to Europe, probably to Holland, and then to Brazil.

pastel was not BROUGHT by the Japanese. it didn't CAME with the Japanese. Japanese people INVENTED pastel in Brazil while trying to replicate some other fried dough dish (Gyoza maybe?)

Os chineses, foram os primeiros. Fale a verdade e o bairro Liberdade não é de japoneses e sim asiáticos.
