Guerrilla's Music Supervisor Lucas van Tol sat down with the Horizon Forbidden West composers to talk about the creation process of the soundtrack to Aloy’s journey. Joris de Man, Niels van der Leest, Oleksa Lozowchuk and composing duo The Flight discuss how they created the music for the Forbidden West, and look back at scoring Aloy’s first adventure in Horizon Zero Dawn.

The original Horizon Zero Dawn Theme to me felt like it perfectly balanced the themes of Mystery, Adventure, Tragedy and hope, and is such a beautiful theme, and the score for the new game is stunning as well. From what I've played so far (around 28 hours) You all have done a great job with Forbidden West!

I love the score in the Horizon Series. Every time I re-watch a trailer or play a soundtrack intensive part of the game it always gives me chills. No matter how many times I watch it it puts a shiver down my spine and it sounds so amazing. You guys did an amazing job with the soundtrack in both games and I am excited to see the new music made for the second one. The music just takes the emotions of Aloy and sorta magnifies them which really makes you feel for the character even more in my opinion. In short, amazing work with the music, this has to be one of the game soundtracks I will always listen to and have the same effect on me as if I watched it the first time. Great job!

Many people don't realize the impact a score has on movies, games, etc. But both soundtracks are absolutely BRILLIANT! I've always been amazed how people can make music from thin air. Bravo gentlemen!

I love what Oleksa has to say about how helpful it can be to have limitations to kinda bank creativity off of, I love hearing how this all came together with dividing up the story and creating a bank of themes and sounds. Love this kind of thing, super stoked for the installment coming later this week

I completely agree that the music in this game is really special! It definitely had the unique Horizon quality we all love but there were many new elements that felt like a breath of life as you played the game. The music definitely motivated me to keep going as I played HFW. I'm so impressed by the amount there is! Good job guys and thank you for all your hard work!!

Everyone did a fantastic job with forbidden west's soundtrack, but in my opinion Oleksa's contributions stand out significantly. Rusted Sands, Built to Kill, in the Flood, Guardian of the Deep, of course As Before We Are... There's a singular compositional depth to his work equal to any of the film greats, and as they said it slots in so perfectly to the unique soundscape and motifs that were already present. I also adore the weaving in of the aloy leitmotif in almost every track, it became something of a scavenger hunt to me 😂
