It's also worth noting that the AT&t unlocking experience is also ridiculous. The rules don't make any sense and they reject unlocking requests constantly for the most spurious reasons. The only way people get them fixed is to file a complaint with the FCC or the BBB which kicks the problem up to the office of the president.

The answer is to stop buying AT&t branded phones if you can. And then you just have to decide it on your current AT&t devices. If you keep them, whether or not it's worth buying a cheap prepaid SIM card to update them.

Honestly, I regret updating my LG Wing to Android 13 because it added a bug with third-party launchers that's giving me headaches. But the v60 was fine on Android 13.

I just went through a big hassle with a LG Wing that has Verizon branding. When I put in my AT&T sim card, everything worked (wifi, texting, internet, data, even device updates from A10 to A13 .) except phone calls. I went through two sim cards, a trip to a AT&T store, numerous hours on tech support with AT&T, even a trip to a Verizon store to see about switching carriers. No luck. Had to return the phone and order a different one (hopefully, the new one is AT&T compatible).
The phone was a Wing in illusion sky color. It looks like back in the day, there was only the grey variant for at&t. Have you ever seen an illusion sky model work on AT&T?

This is true. I experienced this for myself. At&t sucks when it comes to international devices. That's why I use T-Mobile for all my Chinese devices

I'm using both my One Plus 12 and Nothing phone 2a on at&t but I first had to contact them and give my IMEI. Now I'm on 5G and haven't had any issues. At&t is the best service consistently in my area.

Att never cared and never will about their mobile division and I never sold as much for att. I worked close with partners what a rip off! 😮

Actually I'm going to have to disagree with you on that I have the original tank and I have had my AT&t SIM in that for a year and a half now with no issues I also have the fossibot f-101 rugged phone I bought off of Amazon unlocked and have another AT&t SIM in that for almost a year and no issues

In my opinion, att is greedy when it comes to their network & the use of their network. Im so happy I bought my phones from factory, both my iPhone n samsungs. I refuse to buy from a carrier.

Even Verizon isn't as bad as AT&T, you can at the very least try international phones since Verizon doesn't lock them out, they just might not have all the right bands

And you might have to factory reset the phone if you put an active at&t sim card in the phone to trigger the firmware and security updates.
