Maybe the display or brightness has something to do with your phone's settings.

I have the 12 pro max, and waited for the 14 pro max. Apple's biggest upgrades come every 2 years, as you remember iPhone 13 pro max was meh upgrade compared to the 12 Pro Max. This year is the (First Year) that Apple has truly separated the iPhone Pro Max from the other phones. The other iPhones will still have the same processor from last year (iPhone 13). Where as the iPhone 14 PRO MAX has the A16 Bionic, along with a List of upgrades, NOT found on the other Phones. There's a reason it's called the "PRO MAX" and for the first time we're actually seeing that.
