Is there any popular political argument today that doesn’t contain at least one logical fallacy? I don’t think so.

The strawman analogy that was chosen as an example is not a good choice because it is one of the possible exceptions where the motives of the argument are being attacked.
The motive for the majority of gun control measures is to take away everyone’s right to own a gun. This is a common theme that has repeated throughout history so leaping directly to that conclusion is only occasionally partially incorrect.
A strawman argument is where you misrepresent and or expand a minor part of an argument as if it is crucial to the and then attack that.
If you attack the true motives behind an argument it’s not a strawman.
