Thank you for mentioning the specific funds you used. It always drives me crazy when intro videos just say to invest in index funds or to open up a Roth IRA account but don't give specific information on how to do that 😭 it may seem obvious to a lot of people, but so many of us have ZERO background and trying to google out ways to do it can feel overwhelming when theres so much misinformation. I would love more videos like this, especially as they pertain to retirement.

OMG your channel is such a good vibes. I've always been risk averse, if I'm born before digital bank accounts I would 100% keep money under my bed LOL. And that's why I've been avoiding investment like crazy, because the popular investing videos on the internet are always "EAT RISKS FOR BREAKFAST YEAH". I like more humble approach to finance like your videos so much better. I do have to do extra research as I'm from Indonesia, and far as I know, we don't have that much retirement account options here.

Been looking forward to this! I have the same philosophy when it comes to investing – set and forget, do it regularly, and view it as a way of making sure I don't have to work past when I want to. Love your work, Cara!

Great opening! I wish I figured this stuff out sooner. Just turned 40 and only now catching up, after spending a lot of my 20s-30s partying and traveling, living a little too much for joie de vivre. Fun times were had but yes, I wish I had the patience in my 20s to understand investing would be boring and be ok with that, stick with it. I'd have a lot more to show for it by now! But alas, it is what it is, and it's probably better late than never. If you're still in your 20s and reading this, don't make the mistakes I did – enjoy life within reason but also invest and learn to play the long (boring) game!

I was really excited for this video but halfway through it I realized almost 80% of what you said didn't really applied to my life because I'm Colombian. We have subsidized healthcare and mandatory retirement funds that your company has to pay for you. It did help me learn that I could look into sinking more of my savings into my preexisting retirement plan so it helps me get a better pension, so thank you ❤

I started this week with one dollar. Now I have $3. I have tripled my money in less than a week!

I worked at an HSA company and it drove me nuts when I saw people pull their money the second it hit. It’s such a great account because it can be invested. I’m treating it as another retirement account by maxing it out and paying for healthcare costs out of pocket and leaving my HSA funds to gain compound interest

Yes I agree about it being boring (and safe!)
Kind of feeling down rn though as I've had to dip into my emergency fund recently, but looking forward to a wiser future
Thank you 🙏🏼

Fun but useless fact: according to the IRS, the A in IRA actually stands for arrangement, not account. It's a purely semantic, and probably mildly confusing, quirk of our tax code! 🤓

One addition I'd make is that HSA's require you to have a High Deductible Health Plan as defined by the government. This means many people won't qualify based on what health insurance options they have through their employer, and even if you do have the option of one, it may not make sense for you depending on your expected medical expenses (considering preexisting health, age, and risk tolerance). So, don't feel bad if you don't have one, but also it's still frustrating that this tax advantage is only available to some Americans.

Slow and steady monthly investing is what I do. S&P 500 and QQQ are where I make the most money when the markets go up. You just can't give up when it's down because it will sometimes, also buy when it's down too.

THANK YOU for making this video! I'm about to turn 20 and so confused by this kind of stuff, this was super helpful!

Thank you for talking about the why behind our wealth building. A lot of my friends make fun of me for being a financial miser, and they’re technically not wrong. The reason I’m so frugal now is so that I can live a much more free life later on that was yielded from my sacrifices today. It’s a very difficult balance between being present and enjoying my money now while also still focusing on the bigger picture and making decisions to build that beautiful future. Balance is the key to the life, and that includes our finances. I’m still working to find the perfect medium, but you talking about it makes me feel a little less crazy. Thanks Cara :)

i have a question! i work for a nonprofit organization (a childrenMs hospital), and i have a 403b instead of a 401k, do investments from a 403b work the same way as a 401k?

ive all ways had a relationship with money with either half cup full ( its their, but I’m not focused on it mainly ) Because I didn’t care for it! Mainly cause I grew up poor. or Maybe just was not my forte. Im in my life now 27 how hard it is trying to just survive but trying to flip the switch. I don’t know how i will get out of this but i don’t have any financial backing friends, family, or credit. to have help!
Im on my own with a very oppressive environment with no way to get out.😢

I am 48 years old, have five investment properties in trusts with low LVRs and a gross yield higher than my present income, and want to make sure that when I retire, I have a "opportunity fund" that doesn't drastically deplete my other reserves. I want to take on as much debt as possible.

I would actually LOVE an even more in depth video, I could listen for easily another 30 minutes of you breaking down different strategies, meanings, and advantages behind accounts. I am 22, autistic, and am feverishly trying to learn as much as I can for my future financial health and you single handedly inspired me to open my 401k two years ago, start a No Buy year, and I am now learning about different Low Cost Index Funds I can contribute to regularly.
