does this work with a rolling bass at 140bpm with psytrance?

That sounds like a good way to get a massive sounding low end for your track. I'm guessing this is how Eric Prydz use to do it, along with some other mix tricks to enhance the impression of massiveness.

When I add the bass it goes straight into the red and I can just about hear the bass

Just mix with *Pink Noise* (in mono once needed). Will get the volume balance in the ballpark for every track, every single time! Then just tweak a tad to make dominant stuff stick out! 👍
