Touhou 12.3: Hisoutensoku - Sanae (New Commentary Version)

And now it's time for our third fighting “game”. Though... in all honesty I hesitate to call it a new fighting game cause... well it's not really that “new”. The change from Scarlet Weather Rhapsody to Hisoutensoku didn't do much aside from adding five-ish new characters (I personally count Meiling as new compared to the way she was tacked onto Immaterial and Missing Power) and just making attacks smoother and prettier.

Sanae is fairly average as a fighter but she has some attributes that are completely unique to her character. First off she doesn't fly like anyone else rather she creates a wind storm that moves her around. This both means she can only move in a straight line but the wind can also move around some of her attacks she can set up. Secondly two of her combos involve summoning Suwako or Kanako to the field, while powerful they are the only attacks I've seen with a cool down to them.

Fun fact: Nitori, Rumia and Wriggle were apparently planned to be in Hisoutensoku, but they decided to not add her due to... lack of motivation. What the fuck. Apparently Kaguya and Mokou were supposed to be boss characters too? At least Mokou and Nitori got their chance later on... -With Nitori taking Snake's Brawl Final Smash as her LW in HM-

Anyway, back on my nerdery again and what on Earth is Sanae supposed to be?
I honest to god do not know why they decided her summons should have a cool down. In concept, sure, but that translates really badly into gameplay. -Then again Banjo's Wonderwing-
It just makes her a lot worse than she needs to be. In fact, in the current tier list, she's 19th out of the 20 characters in the game... AND YOU'LL GET TO HEAR ME TALK ABOUT THE 20TH DIRECTLY IN THE NEXT VIDEO! god tasofro sucks at balance
Sanae's neutral just isn't the greatest. And some of her tools seem like they're better on paper.
I myself try to play as her sometimes and I have no idea what's going on. I kinda suck at playing her.

7:04 I like to imagine every time Marisa breaks in, either Meiling or Sakuya catch her, presumably stealing something, and it ends with her always being kicked out, but because she never learns, it always happens to the point where Meiling or Sakuya are just used to it. “Yeah, she shows up every Tuesday. It’s annoying, but I've gotten used to it. It’s almost like an exchange. I catch her stealing, then I scold her or beat her up, and kick her out. And yet that girl never seems to learn her lesson…”

If there’s one thing Utsuho achieved that Doc Ock couldn’t, it was the power of the sun, in the palm of her hand.
