Franco Corelli's weeping Ch'ella mi creda [1966 Live] ('stereo')
Показать описание
Dick Johnson's final words as he awaits execution for his crimes (my translation):
May she think me free and far away
On a new road to redemption.
She waits for my return
And the days go by,
yes, the days go by—
yet I do not come back,
no, I do not come back.
Minnie, my life's one and only love,*
Minnie, how you loved me,
how, oh, how you loved me,
you, my one and only love.*
Sung by one of God's greatest operatic gifts of the 20th century, Franco Corelli, here joined by Anselmo Colzani as the envious, inexorable Sheriff Rance.
(* The original libretto reads "mio solo fior", meaning "my one and only flower", but Corelli often sang "mio solo amor", "my one and only love.")
Sound
Restored from a wonderful transfer of the original radio broadcast. With some re-equalization and stereoization, I think even more life now springs out of this remarkably passionate rendition of Puccini's masterpiece.
