This free diver was unable to breathe when he came out of the water after pushing himself, but since he's a professional and had professionals around him he ended up completely fine.

I am a swimmer and I have experienced this it is called Hypoxia it happens when you stay underwater and hold your breath for too long and why this happens is because since you held your breath too long you aren't used to breathing anymore but if your coach or a friend comes up and taps you a couple times and you keep your mouth open while they are tapping you will start breathing if you can't manage to breathe paramedic will come and rush you to the hospital. Hope this helped!

Hey!! Certified free diver here.

So the people there were doing the right thing. It looks like he was blacking out at the surface because he wasn’t doing f the recovery breaths immediately after his dive. But he could breathe. The issue is that he wasn’t breathing enough. Blacking out is when there is a lack of oxygen to the brain.

As for the diving buddies, they first took off his mask and unclamped his nose. Allowing him to breathe more. Then touching his face and blowing on his cheeks. The person who touched his eye probably was aiming for the area below his eye. That’s done bc it’s easier to wake a person up by rubbing or blowing on that area. (Making the area colder). The “goldfish” like breathing are called recovery breaths. Done to maximize the amount of oxygen going to your brain.

He refused mouth to mouth bc he was fully conscious.

Lastly, this probably wasn’t for a competition bc it’s in a pool. But if it is, the rule is no one can touch you or help you after you surface. Depends on where you go but the judge will indicate when you’ve qualified. Generally after you tell them you’re ok.

Point is, you probably don’t know what’s going on so stop judging them.

They did their job well

Well done to the free diver too!!

Thats horrible 🤯 I know well the feeling of choking and so no air getting into my lungs. Im prone to my lungs just collapsing or something ( something to do with stroke I am guessing ) and there have been times where I was mentally preparing to die, and everything was getting dark
