Listen to that low Eb at the end! Absolutely cavernous sound coming from a guy who could also sing baritone roles easily.

He is such a total artist. These gestures were certainly dicted by Robert Carsen, but the way he does them is perfect, like a dancer. Before him, low voices male singers were moving like stiff towers. He was a new kind of singer, flexible, vocally and physically, and burning of inner fire.

I was lucky enough to see him in this role in Chicago. He added a personal touch at the final E flat, sticking his finger in his mouth to make it look like he wanted to puke at the word "umanamente."
