A tour of my 1940's *inspired* house!

Welcome to the 40's house! As named by many people, and a title that my mum and I are choosing to embrace! We bought our sweet little home 8 years ago, a 1920's property. And, as of very recently, have officially paid off the mortgage after a lifetime of renting! And because we'd always had to restrict our tastes in rental properties, when we were finally given the opportunity to put our stamp on somewhere, and make a house a home, we didn't hold back! And although not intentionally designed with any particular era in mind, but rather an eclectic mix of vintage appreciation and grandmacore nostalgia, it seems that the 1940's have seeped into our refurbishments and renovations. And now we have a beautifully unique forever home, and one that I am eternally grateful to for giving me the platform that I have today. So, sit back, relax, and let this grandma girl show you around!

PS. there may be some audio issues due to my wonderful camera person obstructing the speakers, but I think I'm loud enough to get by!

I absolutely love your home, thank you for sharing a very personal space. Just lately with all of what is happening in this country I am withdrawing into my home and decorating it in a much more vintage fashion, I think it’s a reaction to the outside world to try and recapture a feeling of safety and peace, I love the 1940s era so your content is very comforting.

My mother was a young housewife in the early 1940’s. She had an odd comment that wallpaper was SO cheap that she would wallpaper rooms every two years or so.. I just love the COZY you’ve created. Mint green kitchen. Of course! That cooker will never ever die….best 16 pounds you could ever spend! I treasure my few antiques from 1750-1810 and my parents mahagony bedroom set from 1938. Gosh, I see YouTube videos of people in huge houses with white sterile design and NO personality. Brava to you for being nostalgic. I enjoyed the tour, thank you!

I can imagine coming home on a rainy autumn night and getting snug and cosy. It’s so welcoming ❤

The lights weren't centered on ceilings because they often placed them closer to windows to help give privacy instead of shadows. It also offered various light levels throughout the room so people could use it as needed instead of everything being underneath a bright light. I've heard it can help with changing the appearance of room size too. The floor stencils were noted around early 1800s, I believe.

Oh wow I'm in love, especially the kitchen because you kept the pantry, thank god someone left that's not ripping the heart and souls out of these lovely houses, I'd kill for a pantry, loved the whole vibe 🤗🌷⭐

H my goodness!!!! I don't know why but that fairy liquid bottle is so nostalgic. I nearly cried with warmth and joy in my heart remembering my dear Gran and the smell of washing dishes as she wore her apron. Beautiful memories. Love your house. Dream. 🏡❤️🌻😍🕊️💖

I like that the books are in a bookshelf facing the right way instead of being used as decorations. It looks like someone might actually read one.

I really enjoyed your tour you speak very eloquently and you can see the love you have for the 1940s vintage, it brought back memories of my nanna s house I’m 72 now and I can remember the old pantry and the cooker and all the old tins stacked so neatly she also had a Belfast sink, thank you for bringing back such happy memories of somethings I forget to think about these days …

What a lovely job of making it look cosy and with a 1940s feel.
I'd love to do the vintage look in this old 1900 terraced house we live in.

I thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful vintage home tour! I especially loved the tiny bathroom decor, the kitchen and the outdoor seating area sanctuary. I think you’ve done a very lovely job decorating your home.

I personally live in a home that was built in 1948 so the homes in this era were quite small, dainty and delightful 🌷🌷🌷🌟🌷✨✨🌼🌼
