This is the story of Rocket League season rewards and why Psyonix receives so much hate every time they release new ones. This past Rocket League season had possibly one of the worst rewards yet, and because of that, one of the worst community responses to them.

In Rocket League season 4, Psyonix released the most hated rewards of all time. The current system in which they reveal the season rewards at the end of the season, after each player has already grinded for them, is definitely not working out, and it never has. We constantly see disappointment among the community about how "horrible" the season rewards are, even when they are actually pretty good by most standards. But in this season in particular, when they are truly ugly by most standards, the response from the community was far worse than we could have imagined. Almost no one actually thinks the rewards are cool. Despite being brand new items that everyone has received, you rarely ever see them equipped in game because of how widely considered they are to be ugly.

I think the dragon banner criticism is just a silent majority type situation, where the majority of people who liked it just said nothing/didn't say much about it but the minority who disliked it were very outspoken about it

I've never been big on season rewards. Either I'm wearing an item achieved by hitting the rank everyone else in the lobby is in or above....or I'm showing off that I dropped out of that rank? It feels like having your high school diploma framed in your college dorm room.

Last season i defended the S3 decals in the steam forums and i saw a ton of players using them in S4. Also, i really like many items from the new S5 rocket pass (which is better than the last one imo) and some of the new tourney rewards.
But these wheels are so ugly.. They just should rework them or give us a clean version.
I think most players above gold generally dont want to use wheels that have to much stuff on the tire so they start flickering when you use them - especially on Octane where the whole wheel is visible. I think psyonix should focus more on cleaner but stylish wheels that are actually useable in game.

The season reward from season 5 were the best because you had a form of evolution, I don't care if the reward have the logo of my rank in it. I just want something that have a form of evolution !

I think the problem with the dragon banners was awarding them at the same time they rolled out banners in general. So everybody who was maybe hoping for something to give their car a little extra flash instead had to absorb that this whole new feature was going to be a part of the game. They weren't hoping for a new feature, they were hoping for a better version of what they already had.

The Problem ist not the grind for the rank rewards, but the point in being at a certain rank encourages people to built an massive ego combined with Fear of losing that rank. Both this Ends up in missing self-reflection of playstyle and toxicity (which then will be answered with even more toxicity by other players)

Personally I don't care about season rewards, all I want the devs to do is fix that bug where you cant do anything after a game ends!

I wish they would Release an evolving item the more goals or assists you do. Kinda like the lvl 100/110 rewards in Apex legends.

4:50 no, I believe it’s because we’ve had the proverbial sand thrown in our face with the more recent season rewards that we finally realized we were nitpicking over arguably pretty cool rewards and they’re nothing at all bad compared to the let down that the last few season’s rewards have been.

The standard for season rewards has decreased sharply and we just didn’t understand how truly bad it could be.
