Joey Jordison's Slipknot Drum Sound // Duality | Recreating Iconic Drum Sounds

Joey Jordison's drumming for Slipknot set new standards for the genre, and his very musical approach towards creating grooves and fills made him stand out and become one of the most important heavy drummers of his generation. When Slipknot gained worldwide recognition in the late 1990's, their appearance and hard music shocked the music scene. Their controversial masks and raw sound made them one of the most style defining metal bands of the late 1990's and 2000's. When Jordison died in 2021, a real icon left the stage. We want to pay tribute to his achievements and honor his work with this episode of our "Recreating Iconic Drum Sounds" series.

Joey was the reason I started playing the drums

His snare sound is what will always stick with me forever. But his double bass sound was incredibly influential and still one of the best ever. RIP Joey.

I love Joey's snare sound. It has a lot of bite.

Wow, that was actually very authentic to the real sound, especially nailed it with the clicky bass drums. Clown's beer keg was a nice touch : ).

This is just incredible. You guys are truly knowledgeable of drums and how to get the sound you want out of them.

"The 13x6.5 1 mm thick steel shell provides a super crisp attack, and still has a nice body, just like Joey himself." You play like that every night of your life, you stay ripped. RIP JJ.

Out of all the artists deaths that I’ve experienced in my lifetime, Joeys death just *still* doesn’t feel real. I don’t know how to describe it. I just don’t want to believe it. Such an inspiration to me.

I’ve been listening to Slipknot since 99’ and have been playing drums since 98’. He is the reason I play metal. RIP Goat.

Joey is one of the reasons I began using higher tuning on my snare drum. Opened up my pallette even more!

The thing I like the most about this channel is that I watch it for the content, regardless of whether I like the drummer/band that's being profiled or not.

Keep up the good work and thumbs up for another great video.

I remember being 13 or 14 years old watching YouTube videos of Joey in 240p playing some festivals and just being blown away at his precision and speed. He was a legend in the industry

Phenomenal recreation as always, just the ride was completely off, Joey used a really heavy pingy ride so an A Custom Ping Ride or an S Rock Ride (what Jay Weinberg uses) would've been ideal

One time I seen Joey warming up in a documentary.
Just his warm up, left my jaw on the floor.

The best aspect of Joeys drumming has to be the iconic double bass🔥 fly high Joey

Joey was my Influence into drums and music. Listening to Joey was the very first time I isolated the drums and just listened out for him. He made me appreciate drums and fills In a song and how it's the backbone. I remember being 12 years old and listening to other music after that and asking myself why isn't there endless double bass and sick fills everywhere? He was just something else and his death doesn't feel real yet. I'm 23 now and I feel like a part of my childhood is gone. You can't even buy his signature blood Promark drumsticks anymore. I used to buy so many pairs In my teens and broke them all or gave them away when I had one stick left. Never did I realize there was a finite amount. And the ones that are left are hundreds of dollars treated as collector items. It's a shame. I am depression lol

I have to say. I’m sure most would say the same thing. Joeys snare is my all time favorite sounding snare of all time. Live that thing sounded incredible.
