Gold is a great conductor of electricity and limestone is a great insulator . the great pyramid were in fact electricity conductor, while the other two acted like batteries

Fabulous topic! Love this subject! Loved seeing what these original “wonders” looked like prior to the ravaging of time❤. I’ve visited Rhodes, Greece. They call it Rodos❤️🐆🐈‍⬛😻💕🐈🐾

Very interesting documentary. My understanding is that the Colossus of Rhodes did not straddle the harbor entrance. It stood to one side of it.

My favourite would have to be the Lighthouse of Alexandria. I love ancient history especially Egyptian. Although, Petra in Jordan is #1 on my Bucket List. Lol! Your video's are the best!! ❤XoXo

Great video. Just, FYI, you don't pronounce the "P" in Ptolemy. But carry on. Good stuff.

How are all these stone structures getting burnt down? Makes no sense

Image at 1:25 is a little disconcerting, the statute has appropriate iconography for Zeus, with small statue of Athena held on right hand, the building in which it is set, however, is not Greek, they never invented and only rarely the Arch, and certainly not on the grand scale in the illustration, they mainly only used a trabiated system of uprights and straight horizontal beams, but is instead more typically a Roman building, with a barreled vault. Can you please advise the origin of this image?

There is an old soldier story about the statue of Zeus. When the Romans came to disassemble it and bring it back to Rome.

As you can imagine the priest strongly objected. But there was nothing they could do to stop them and they knew it.

And as they shuffled the priest out of the way and the workman got busy and grabbed a hammer and chisel struck at the sandal of the foot of Zeus.

It woke up and disturbed a very large nest of rats that had been living inside the statue for quite some time.

The rats scurried around and screeched. They normally only came out at night. To go into the city in search of food. And hid in the statue during the day. And the old priest knew this too.

The rats in the nest inside the statue made such a horrendous noise and screeching so much that it shook the entire statue.
And made a sound as if Zeus himself was laughing at their feeble attempts to move his Statue.

And being very superstitious and religious the workman and slaves and most of the soldiers ran away.

Except for 2 of the older soldiers. That was in charge of moving the statue. The veterans that have been around and seen quite a lot. So they didn't frighten easily. They too thought it was quite funny and couldn't help but laugh to themselves quietly.

But the other soldiers and workmen refuse to go back in the temple and even touch the statue. Many of them offered Sacrifices and prayers to Zeus and asked for forgiveness.

So what could we do? We couldn't remove the statue by ourselves and we couldn't return home and tell the Commanding officer what had happened. And that Zeus himself chased them away.

He would think that we were both mad. And if we told him that rats chased us away. Then he would think that we were liars or worse cowards. We would definitely be punished maybe even executed. Failure of this sort simply wasn't tolerated back then

So we simply left they started going back to Rome. But instead of reporting back. And returning to their unit when they were supposed to.

Instead we just met up with other cohorts and were absorbed back into the legion rather than deserting. And never spoke of it in public again.

That is except for maybe around the campfire at night after a few drinks with other soldiers for a good laugh.

I remember thinking when 1st hearing this story sitting around the campfire. What an appropriate metaphor for religion then and now.

Gilded in silver and gold and ivory. Shiny and beautiful on the outide. Hollow and disgusting and filthy and rotten on the inside.

Anyways that's the story of the soldiers that were sent to retrieve the statue of Zeus for the mad emperor.
