Two Nevada City police officers are at home recovering after being hit by an accused drunk driver on Highway 49 Sunday morning. It happened at 12:30 a.m. on Highway 49 near the Broad Street on-ramp. The suspect, Geoffrey Rodgers, 28, is in the Nevada County jail on a $75,000 bond. The two officers responded to a call of a driver hitting and killing a bear on the highway. They were standing on the roadway, closing down one lane of traffic with flares, since the bear's body and the smashed car were on the roadway.
