Justin Trudeau was scheduled to apologize for the federal government's treatment of Inuit with tuberculosis in the mid-20th century, but a winter storm in Iqaluit forced him to cancel the ceremony.

These apologies are becoming meanless to our society. News for a day and the world goes on making the same mistakes. Also apologizing for others in the past, but can't apologize for his errors in judgement. A hypocrite!

A 1949 CBC radio clip documents the outbreak of polio among the Inuit along the shores of Hudson Bay. 13 were flown to Winnipeg for treatment, 25 were found dead. Its not known how the disease reached such far-flung distances and only 4 years after the end of ww2. The interviewee is the doctor providing treatment. Canada's Inuit population stands at 50, 480 souls, according to 2006 Canada Census. Much of their population, some 90%, was declared extinct by 1902-03, according to research done in the 1950's by Henry Collins. All of it the result of contact with European introduced diseases. Trudeau's apology for tuberculosis is the most recent reiteration of this fact.
