Kenshin vs Seijuro 1st Training Fight

One of several EXCELLENT fights from Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (2014). In the first stages of the film, Kenshin struggles with his own perceived failures and at the same time receives remedial training from his old sensei. The sensei's a little harsh, but the action and emotion alongside the music make for brilliant film.

Some footage from the preceding and following scenes are included to allow the music to fade.

The movie did an excellent job of portraying how outclassed Kenshin was by his master.
Naturally they couldn't find a seven foot tall guy to play Hiko Sejuro, but they cast a really talented actor who did a bang up job giving the same vibe as you would expect from a god-level swordsman.

Just love the way they portrayed Kuzu Ryu Zen in this live action, it’s more realistic and grounded since one cannot hit 9 spots in one blow, how about 9 continuously powerful blows

What I like for this scene is the choreography of the fight. And for the fact that Hiko Seijuro just used wooden sword instead real sword and defeat Kenshin that using his sakabatō many times, it shows how superior he is than Kenshin. I wish live action for anime be like this always. The choreography, the set, the angle of camera.

Coolest thing about the choreography is you can know its kuzuryusen even without a dialogue

Notice how Kenshin is completely reliant on his sword and his speed. Seijuro Hiko can match him on both counts...on top of being much physically stronger and a better overall fighter who incorporates kicks and other movements. In RPG terms, Kenshin is a sweeper, while Hiko can sweep AND tank.

Hiko Seijuro XIII is literally the perfect successor of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu because he honed his body to adapt the normal usage of the style, and one of the two survivors of the ultimate technique Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki (except that Kenshin used a Sakabato) performed by their protege as their last lesson.

For Kuzuryusen, the camera switches angle. I love that, for 9 hits, you barely have the impression the actor strikes at least 13 times to KO his pupil

Even Kenshin isn't fast enough to parry Hiko's Kuzu Ryu Sen. Man is a complete legend.

“Even a pebble is dangerous if thrown by a master.” I do wish we could have seen that opening scene where Hiko completely annihilates those bandits.

At the 1:14 shot, you can see Kenshin's actor smile a bit lol, presumably because they just nailed the take.

1:47 it took me a while to realize that Hiko just dropped a KUZU RYUU SEN on Kenshin there... ;D

Kenshin is wearing a modern kimono while Hiko is wearing a Hitatare, an older type of kimono that is made during the Heian period for the warrior class or bushi

John 13:16: Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
This fight was EVERYTHING. Hiko is not only giving him remedial training, he is literally SPANKING Kenshin for his past actions with a wooden stick . Kenshin literally wipes the floor with everyone he faces, but then his master comes and wipes the floor with him. I like the idea that no matter how invincible a hero is, there is always one better, usually the one who trained the hero.

1:49 Damn his master is too fast. Kenshin getting hard time to defend himself but still he can't😂.. what a great masters combo🤣

I find it interesting that Seijuro Hiko is far beyond everything that is happening and he could even deal with Shishio, but he prefers to live in isolation and live peacefully because he thinks it is a waste of time to get involved. Even though Seijuro is able to defeat Shishio, the story focuses on Kenshin's evolution and development, learning through his master how to deal with Shishio Makoto personally, leading him to have to completely change his thinking about the secret technique.

His breakdance skill really helped him to described Kenshin agility...

A guy like Hiko, if he wanted, he could conquer Japan and China. He is like one of those traditional illustrations on the walls of the palaces from famous warriors of the past. A very, very powerful man.

Kenshin blocked the first 7 strikes of the Kuzu Ryu Sen. You can tell he was barely keeping up with the strikes by strike 7 only to lose his rhythm and fail to block the last 2. I love that attention to detail.
