I just salvaged the Intel '05 Q6600 core 2 quad SLACR Malay 2.40Ghz/8m/1066/05A L738B001 & Intel '06 Q9400 core 2 quad SLB68 Malay 2.66Ghz/6m/1333/05A L946B263 but I'm running the E5800 also VGA775 socket with only 3x1GB of the lowest frequency ddr3 ram and it works pretty good but I don't game. I didn't even know I had them but what id really like to know is what's the frequency limits on these 45nm processors for UDimm ddr3 ram? Can I get away with 1600mhz or does it even matter at a certain point? My motherboard will only handle 2x4GB or 4x2GB

I'm running a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 on a Dell Optiplex 780 and getting good results for Skyrim SE average 30 FPS with 380 mods installed. I believe, I need a better motherboard than the factory one preferable wanting to use Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 with ASRock G41C-GS LGA 775 Motherboard problem is availability.

Please, nobody follow these recomendations. It is incorrect. QX9650 is a better choice than Q6600. It has unlocked multiplier. There are also 771 socket Xeons that can be modded to 775. But, honestly, for modern use I'd go with an intel i5 CPU. The most modern one you can afford.
