Presenters:
Ayo Bankole Jr. (Pianist, Music Producer/Composer, and Scholar)
Dr. Oladele Ayorinde (Project Convener)
Description:
The AI-Music Dialogue is a digital humanities research initiative that explores the shifting yet complex intersections of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in people's everyday lives, the arts, and the humanistic fields. The emergence of AI provided another layer to the rapidly evolving ecosystems of digital humanity. However, the implications of AI and Digital Technology on Music (broadly conceived) and everyday life across societies not only constitute forms of disruption of 'traditional' approaches to musical understanding, everyday life and music-making but also raise ethical concerns. How do we embrace AI as universities, societies, and communities of practice in everyday music-making, arts, and cultures? What are the roles of AI in creative and intellectual processes? What are the implications of AI in music education and research? How does AI enhance the promotion and protection of cultural heritage and artistic forms such as music—and sites like archives, museums, and local practices? What are the ethical implications of AI?
This presentation introduces AI/digital technology in the Nigerian/African/global south contexts. It explores the potential of AI/digital technology in everyday life, music-making, digital storytelling, public humanities, and music and cultural studies.
The Organ House AI-Dialogues invite musicians/producers, technologists, digital technologists, researchers, and industry professionals—to explore AI and its potential for music, music-making, music education, research, music production, and creative practices in the arts--while also alluding to its challenges.
