I Bought A New Car From A Dealer And It's Not A Toyota (Here's Why)

My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

Bought a new 22 Pro. The A/C would whistle around 35mph. They had to remove the complete dash for the repair. During the repair the dealer never had fender covers on and the tech scratched the fender down to the metal and they had to repaint it twice and it still wasnt right. Every oil changed they never filled the washer or checked my air filter. When I showed the managers no body cared. Toyota isnt what it use to be. I just sold it last week with only 11k on the clock. Looking at other brands.

What a great video! I have been in the market for a Rav4 and to my surprise non of the local dealerships have any inventory, they are all pre ordered. Thanks for shedding light on this topic!

I appreciate your content brother. Last year around this time I negotiated a car deal a few thousand under bluebook on a used 2020 Ford explorer. I did this negotiation from Japan to a dealership in Ohio and had it delivered to house. I was moving into in Maryland the day after I moved in. It can absolutely be done and I never set 1 ft inside a dealership.

I was planning to buy a new Tundra, but changed my mind due to quality issues. I ended up buying a 24 Chevy HD2500 ZR2 with a 6.6 V8. Great truck, no regrets. Bye Toyota.

Toyota lost me this year (after 20 years of driving them) when they eliminated the V6 for the Tacoma and the V8 for the Tundra. I haul firewood and a boat frequently, and need a dependable truck I know can handle it.

I feel your pain. I've had a love hate relationship with Toyota (and Honda) dating back almost 50 years. Because their vehicles are in demand, they really don't think they have to go out of their way to please customers. If you don't buy their cars, somebody else will. I was actually thrown out of the dealership in Arlington, VA after I complained about them not delivering my tags for over 60 days. When I asked if they could issue a dual title with my name and the dealership on it so I could register the vehicle myself (back in the 90s that was a thing), the woman screamed at me and tossed me out of her office. There was another incident when I was serving in the Military. In 1980, I walked in with my re-enlistment bonus looking to purchase a 79 Celica. No dealer would even talk to me. Here I am with 13 grand burning a hole in my pocket and every dealer in the place just walked right past me. I would buy a Toyota from a private party without hesitation but I will never step into another Toyota dealership. Same goes for Honda.

A buddy of mine is wanting an entry level Tacoma, it's the 2 door extended cab with no frills. He ordered one and they told him 5 to 6 months. When he asked why, he was told the base models don't make as much for Toyota as the upper levels do. He's looking at other options.

Now I realize this was a few years back, but Toyota used to offer a Toyota Friends and Family deals at some local California dealerships. I bought a 2016 New Toyota 4Runner for $2000.00 of the MSRP. Which of course I loved! If the dealer's weren't so greedy these days they'd certainly bring in more buyer's with incentives like that. And oh yeah I still have the 4Runner today. Your dealings with that specific dealership certainly reminds me of some other run in's I've had over the year's. I hope you and your wife get a good deal somewhere else.

Congratulations! Looking forward to viewing next video.
We visited a local Toyota dealer Friday looking at hybrid Rav4 or Cross. The sales man was polite seemingly honest, very helpful. He provided detailed answers to our questions and best of all no games. Saturday the phone started ringing. My wife got a voice mail no name number did not match the sales man. Then got three more calls. Each one a different sales person last one being a sales manager basically asking when we will buy. WTF! What happened to the first guy? Four cold calls in one day. Toyota have some class this is abuse.

Thanks for being transparent. I’m a lil anxious when it comes to new car purchases. I take real good care of the cars I own just so I don’t have to put up w/dealership BS. Negotiating is not one of my strong points. With that said, Wifey wants a new Cadillac this yr. This helps me out a lot man. I am not patient so I pay more money out the door, rather than chip teeth w/those guys. Day wasted!! I rather work over time in the heat of the day with no break than deal w/them Suckas. Real Talk!! I’ve learned a lot watching your channel. You’re Cool Man keep up the good work.

Silly me, as a first time viewer I assumed he would share what he bought. Learned my lesson.

He probably bought an Odyssey. No markups, no massive price increases and can be had below suggested retail price.

Power should not be a problem with a Toyota hybrid. When you need it, the electric motor teams up with the ice engine to provide the needed power. The Prius is actually a pretty hot little car when you floor it. They actually have a governor on them.

I don't pay any attention to people who talk about how "underpowered" a particular vehicle is. I test drive it to see if it feels OK to me. I believe people who focus on that are stop light drag racers and anything less that burning rubber is "underpowered".
One anecdote: My daughter has a hybrid Camry and I don't consider that underpowered in any way. If you put your foot down hard on the go pedal, it goes, very well!

When I bought my Lucerne in 2022, the salesman discounted it about 5½-6% due to a broken door handle and trunk latch (I got them fixed for less than the discount). I did try to get a little more off but nothing doing.

I also heard about one guy in middle Tennessee who kept running into "Market Adjustments" on Corollas. He finally found a dealer in Colorado who would sell at MSRP. So he booked a one-way flight to Colorado and drove his new Corolla back to Tennessee.

Got a 23 Charger scat pack started at 58k and there was 11k off between dodge and the dealer. Turned it down. But I waited until the last day of the month after memorial day and got another 5k off to close the deal. I knew from car edge there was a big incentive from dodge to the dealers for 23s and they were motivated to sell. And i know from experience salesmen are always more ready to deal when thier sales month closes. After my trade and equity I had in my trade I was out the door for 29, 245.00. All over the phone and drove 5 hours to pick it up. There are deals out there you just gotta work for them.

I love Toyota but the drop in performance engines for turbo BS will make me think twice about getting one.

I think Nissan made a huge mistake with dumping the Titian. They could be hitting Toyota hard with that V8 that most truck guys want. If they would do a comeback campaign and show off that V8, it would be a guaranteed hit.

GREAT POST! Thanks for speaking the truth. Wilmington NC Toyota has 4k of add ons on their Camry and will not take them off the did reduce the price off MSRP but would not take the add ons off. I took what would have been my down payment ($4, 700) and went today and bought a 2004 Avalon garage keep with only 96k miles the classic little old ladies car. Thanks Toyota of Wilmington from keeping me from making a 28k dollar mistake.
