EY Etihad 787-9 Business Class Cabin has some great seats, but mostly are bad. However, there's one BIG SAVING GRACE of these seats. Also amazing service and food. Overall I LOVE THE NEW A350-1000, much less so on the 787-9

Flying backwards is not really a big deal (except for a few people who have some particular travel sickness) - the take off and landing are a bit odd but once you are in the air there is no difference. Etihad business is really a very solid product and very stylish. As you predicted the new Terminal A is an amazing experience.

Flying reverse is a non-issue for most passengers. In fact I prefer it because you can view the engine/wing. Flown it both with qatar and etihad.

From the video, there seems to be closable partitions on the isle side of every seat, so you can get good privacy when needed. They only have to be opened for landing and take off. Rear facing seats are on many trains and buses, so most people are used to it. Also, a rear-facing seat may actually be a safety benefit if the plane crashes?
Major flight hubs are always busy and stressful, whatever class you fly. It depends on who owns and operates the airport, more than anything else, unless a particular airline owns the airport, and you are flying with them. As for the middle east, often passport control and immigration officers work at a leisurely pace-it is a cultural thing, and it is a no-no to point it out.
The worst thing in some parts of the middle-east is the cultural thing of making women dress totally covered and have to play a subservient role-at least in public. I was handling the bags, and my partner wanted to do the check in to the hotel, but the hotel staff snubbed her, and so I had to do it. It was irritating, and we both had the urge to remodel the bigot's nose free of charge. As a consequence, we avoid some parts of the middle east. Their loss in tourist dollars, but we don't want to participate in such medieval practices.

I was fortunate to have one of the forward facing window seats on a flight in 2023. However, I was only semi-satisfied with it. It certainly was spacious and private. Strangely though, the seat was on the hard side and overall not comfortable. The seat was quite low, and I was not able to lift it despite several setting options. The back rest was not adjusted to the body shape but more or less like a vertical ironing board. Again some options to adjust it but they only made the back rest even more uncomfortable.
The other aspects on Etihad - cleanliness, service and food - were good, though.
This year I chose Gulf Air. Again it was a 787. Although the configuration is less spacious than on Etihad (2-2-2 versus 1-2-1), I found the actual seat much more comfortable. It felt like a well-cushioned armchair. Between the two airlines, I would therefore rather fly Gulf Air again, at least on a Dreamliner.

Did you get a permission to filming? I heard that Etihad has a strict policy no filming. Are FA kind or rude about filming?

Etihad spiraled down since the pandemic.
The prices went up as the services and aircraft went down

I really don't understand the point of designing a cabin with rear facing seats, and this video is probably the best example of how poorly it can be executed. By default it creates two tiers of seating in the one cabin. Even QSuite suffers from this poor design choice (although, the rear facing seats are much closer to the window). There's a lot to be said in favour of the reverse herringbone layout (whether on Etihad's A350s or Qatar's A380s), it's a design that doesn't let anyone down.

Travelled twice on Etihad 787 business class, looks luxurious but wasn't too comfortable.

I just flew CGK to CDG on Etihad, the 787 was horrible, I am 188cm tall and it wasn't large enough to stretch out. Not to mention sitting backwards wasn't fun either. The A350 from AUD to CDG was fine, but the 787 was nothing to write home about or cover the large price tag...

You say it was literally uncomfortable for at least half the people in your cabin, did you ask them? Or is this just your thoughts as you do not like the seat arrangement? You can prebook your seat and choose a forward facing seat if you so desire.

The rear facing seats should have faced the window. Unbelievable views of the engine that we are all missing the chance to see (provided we can actually afford this stuff)
