I am currently taking a Sports Medicine & kinesiology class my senior year in high school at a technical education school. I was looking at all of the jobs in my sports med field when I found PA. Being a PA seems very interesting since there are so many specializations. Lots of schooling and hard work but it looks like it’s a good career for life. I am going to have my sports med certificate of confidence (kinda forgot the official name of my certification i will get) as a back up and foundation first before I get into everything required to be a PA.

This helps so much! Can you do a video on some important questions to include when shadowing PAs? I have found pretty general questions but I'd like to know some that maybe the average person doesn't think of. Also can you give some tips on what to do or how to get the PA to write you a good recommendation letter? I'm not sure how someone could write a good letter when I've only shadowed them for maybe a week (if that).

Hey James, I know this may sound like a silly question but when doing your shadowing hours, is there a timesheet you carry for their signatures? If not how do the PA programs determine if you actually shadowed and volunteered the hours you claim you did? I'm just starting my undergrad and would like to start off as early as possible.

I cannot find anyone to shadow. For your hours, did u work as an EMT? If so, what was that experience like. Also I had a question about my major. I currently am a bio major but I've only finished my first semester in college. I absolutely hated chemistry and got a terrible grade. I'm taking bio next semester but I don't think I can handle any more chemistry. Do you think switching to nursing would be better? This way I would also get clinical experience set up by my university.

How many hours of shadowing did you acquire all together? And what do you think is an adequate amount of hours of shadowing someone should have when applying (i'm aware every program varies/has requirements, but some schools also do not specify).

Charging to shadow is messed up.. it’s like someone who is interested in what you are doing asking you for advice and you won’t answer unless they pay you. I wouldn’t pay to shadow even if I was filthy rich. The experience with the PA would be artificial and I wouldn’t want that.
