As a busy working person, is there any harm learning it casually? I’ve been learning songs and playing along with them and it gives me really great pleasure as an evening hobby and I’ve referred to it as a kind of ‘enhanced listening’. I’m aware I couldn’t compose or work with other people but still get value from it. I’ve really felt some of my favourite songs in a different way doing so too.

I think most people see it like slang and swears. You can have a conversation among people who speak like you, but get testy (even offended) if someone speaks differently.
I was disappointed with it until I saw this short. When someone else says it, it lets me vamp harmonious thoughts (like in music).
It’s why so many guitarists are into the blues, some because it’s easy, others because they’re trying to convince their friends it’s easy (so they’ll speak in blues together - but friends actually want a neat party trick).
Play it, someone will understand and speak back… and if not, I can’t stop playing anyway, so say it far and wide
