I would say it takes discipline and mental training to gain enough power to then shatter chains to liberate oneself from self-limitations, restrictions, and boundaries that hold you back. Discipline and mental training are the keys to unlock the ability to be powerful in ones own right, with ones sheer power alone obtain status in the hierarchy, respect, admiration, and appreciation, and demolish all obstacles in ones way. Only through concentrated power can a Sith extend ones will across relationships, society, professions, organizations, and then even across nations and regions and gather those ready to serve your vision with their specialized knowledge and skill to achieve more difficult goals.

The will and power to prove our worth is essential here to grow a following, allies and servants willing to fight and struggle similarly as you to gain triumph for the own desires and self-interests or for ideals. Also a Sith can strive through discipline to develop and grow ones abilities enough to secure those things and build something from the ground up with independence, unshakableness, unconquerable spirit, and willpower.

Two ways of breaking the spell a conditioned limitation has on you, that is through the ‘path of inner destruction’ or ‘reframing’. The path of inner destruction can be wielded by using conflict, logic, destroying symbols, zazen meditation, nature immersion, or comparing meme’s of opposing ideas and suggestions until one is rejected and the other accepted, or through reframing by learning the disadvantages of your weakness or limit, and replace it with more positive paradigm, ideas that challenge preconceived notions, beliefs, and principles and redefine what it means until it gives you the sense of freedom and dominance that you desire and until it no longer disempowers you, but empowers you so that it does not hold you back from success.

A chain is anything that holds you back. I love how you used Nelson Mandela as an example. A repressive government was not only his chain, but a chain that held back his people. Because he broke that chain, his people can reach new heights. The perfect example of "Though victory, my chains are broken".
