You're right. There was the hex key, on the handpiece cardboard, in a bright yellow box, with a white arrow pointing at it. Kinda hard to miss, and I missed it.

The soldering was great! I love working with high quality tools, and low cost high quality tools are the best! I've never had an iron reach temperature so quickly, and the curly brass has largely replaced the wet sponge for tip cleaning. This is a very well designed high quality iron. I've reached soldering nirvana.

The instruction sheet for my new FX-888 stated that it included the hex key but it didn't. No big deal. I don't want to lock the temperature, and if I did, I have metric hex keys. I don't need another one.

As expected, everything about this Hakko FX-888 screams quality. I just finished unboxing it and haven't used it yet, but I know I'll like it. I'll be breaking it in on a soldering job today. My Weller-Ungar soldering de-soldering station is gong on eBay.

@metalmike00 - Actually, the unit we used for this video did not come with a hex key but it is available - part number B2017 (H001-001536) for $3.27. Newer ones may include it. It does, however, come with a calibration screwdriver that gets stored in the base of the unit. Thanks for watching!

Well, we were wrong! The unit we used in this demo clearly has the hex key - we just missed it. It's on the cardboard that the FX-8801 comes on. Go to about 42 seconds into the video and you can see it clearly.

Thanks for the comment. Take another look in your box. You may find the key on the cardboard that the handpiece was on. I made a short video, "Where to Find the Hakko FX-888 Hex Key", showing exactly where it should be.

Let us know how the soldering project goes today!
