That's a common misconception. Measuring light to make an observation does not affect the emitting object at all. The light we see from stars is from billions of years ago. It would violate causality if there were some way to manipulate those stars in the past as we see them.

The measurement does not cause a collapse of the wave function. It causes decoherence of the object being measured if you interfere with the object. But that doesn't mean reality is participatory. Reality exists with or without you.
