The Bible says Fear God, so once you fear humans you will find yourself in Pilate's place, for though you know the truth, fear will lead you to do the opposite of what you believe or even what you stand for so as to free yourself from the fear of humanity. Human slave masters are nasty and will make sure their subjects dance to their tunes, see Nebuchadnezzar placing an idol and fire. Everyone whose fear of the Lord was jeopartised had to succumb to the fear of the humans so as save his life
