Are We Last Men? Critique of Fukuyama ft. Plato & Nietzsche (Christ or the Grand Inquisitor, Pt. 5)
Показать описание
Plato's teaching about thymos (spiritedness) vs. reason, as well as Nietzsche's views, are brought to bear on Fukuyama's thought in The End of History and the Last Man, a seminal book from 1992 that, despite Fukuyama's moving on from his conclusions, continues to represent an iconic defense of the idea of triumphant democracy and liberal globalism. Whereas Fukuyama reasoned that the "last man" was our fate at the end of the historical process in which liberalism, unbeatable, would dominate the globe, it may be that human beings are not solely motivated by the desire for recognition as Fukuyama defined it. If not, then the rationale for the "end of history" may be flawed.
