I've always loved this quote because it ties back to what Alfred said about some men who can't be reasoned with or bought or bullied. Joker has no one and nothing to lose. He doesn't care about people or money he only cares about proving his point about how Batman is just like everyone else and that he will break his one rule eventually. that he's savage, unwavering and reckless, that was the point, that was Joker's mission and purpose, not to break Batman physically but mentally. He wanted to watch Batman's world burn.

So the Joker knew the Batman would choose the girl, so the Joker told the Batman the wrong direction. This way, he shattered Batman's soul and at the same time, keep Harvey Dent so the Joker can gel him to his liking. Just wow!!!

If you notice, Joker gives everybody the "dead eye" when he looks at them. Batman is the only person he truly "sees". The rest, he looks right through them.
