For 2024 there's 9 trim levels for the Subaru Outback including the Onyx Edition. You may wonder what is the right model for me and should I go with the 2.5 or 2.4. In this video we'll take the 2024 Subaru Outback Onyx Edition XT out for a test drive to see if it's a great family vehicle in a highly competitive crossover market.

Huge thank you to Subaru of Wakefield for letting me stop by to film this 2024 Subaru Outback!

I finally got my outback Exactly one month ago (11-1-24) after waiting a little over three years since I worked at a Subaru dealership.... the first time I drove an outback it totally sold me and changed my whole outlook on what I wanted to get eventually.... my take on the outback is that it is a crossover, between a station wagon and a SUV.... there were so many things that sold me on getting an outback, starting first and foremost with the safety features, which Subaru does not put a price tag on and I appreciate that.... among other things that were big sellers for me was the station wagon presence it gives, the overall driving ability it has, comfort, utility, and just so many other aspects, too many to keep listing.... needless to say, I don't regret at all finally getting my outback, and I can say it was truly worth the wait.... I see and hear a lot of reviewers talking about 0-60 times and giving negative reviews about the pick up and speed of the outback, and in my opinion, that is an absolutely ridiculous "test " to rate this on.... if you're looking for speed and acceleration, or 0-60 times, then maybe you should think about buying a Mustang or a Corvette or something in that category, the outback is not and was not built with speed in mind, it was built with practicality, comfort, and above all safety in mind... sure from a standstill, a Mustang or similar type of car is going to blow my doors off without much effort, but let's do that same type of test on a snow covered road and see, who comes out on top in that one, I can pretty much assure you it won't be the Mustang, or let's go trekking down some dirt roads or trails and see which one comes out the other end without being towed out, which is why I don't feel a 0-60 test is relevant for this car... if you're looking for speed and/or to show off, then by all means a Mustang, Corvette, or a challenger is the car for you, however, if you are looking for comfort, versatility, utility, capability, and above all safety, then look into an outback like I did, or any Subaru for that matter

There are those who are somewhat reluctant to call it a lifted station wagon, but the fact of the matter is that a lifted station wagon with a capable AWD system is a good concept.

Plus-It has a Luxury drive feeling more than the Forester had (I have/had both). Minus-Spongy on the XT even, hit the gas and it moves, but there's that split second delay that Turbo or not the CVT still makes. Head unit is slow, when you've turned off the engine, the music keeps playing, very annoying. Eyesight errors start to come in around 10k miles in, then solves itself but this might be a few days, beyond that you'll need to take it in to get recalibrated ($300-$600, or under warranty under 36k). Plus is the sunroof, like it more than the Forester's large panoramic roof, let's be honest if you're the one driving you're not going to see that much anyway. This car also can run off-road like nobody's business. One thing I like about the XT Onyx is the built in Nav (esp in California), and the main display which gives you everything you need, in fact you can turn off the 11" Head unit . (Nav, Radio, etc, all there). Forester didn't have that, and it's wroth the extra 2k or so if you get the Outback Premium trim I think? Wish I had gotten the base engine, XT sucks gas though, afraid to use the paddle shifters and see the needle move, especially when gas is $6 a gallon. 22mpg average if I'm lucky. Kudos to American workers, fit and finish is good (made in Indiana/Engine made in Japan).

The heated seats with StarTex don’t get hot enough compared to other Outback models.

I still worry about the reliability of the 2.4 turbo. What's your thoughts on that?

Have you found the synthetic leather seats in the 2024 Limited to be somewhat uncomfortable on longer drives? This week I drove 3 hours and it's more painful than my older 2015 Premium with cloth seats.
