Eastory really mischaracterized the way in which the US got involved in Vietnam, and he is really wrong that it was fought in the same way that Korea was. The US went much harder at North Korea and pretty much sent in as much force as we could right away. In Vietnam, it was all about a slow escalation, with increased involvement each year until Nixon started pulling troops out. While it is true that some parts of the US military were very much not ready for the kind of war that was fought in Vietnam, there is no question that the US did a lot of very new things in Vietnam to try and win. The escalation really had very little to do with China, except insofar as the Pentagon under Robert McNamara believed that military operations could be used as a form of diplomacy...and the US used Vietnam to show our commitment to fighting communism, so communicating with China and the USSR was definitely part of that. As it turned out, the more we tried to win Vietnam militarily, the less chance we ever had to win the real war there, which was political and economic.

this programme did not mention the British Army's contribution in the Korean conflict; see the Glorious Gloucesters

Always annoying when someone say the USA won the second world war like no one else involved likewise other conflicts mentioned in this clip.

Your comment about the US being a superhero that the World does not want is funny...but only occasionally true. If you look at all of the US military actions, you would be amazed how many of them were absolutely wanted by the World...or at least a large part of it. To be sure, Vietnam was not one the world wanted...but the French sure did want us to help them keep South Vietnam out of communist hands...especially after they were forced out in 1954. Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11 also were not wanted by the World, but a lot of other times the US has deployed troops, it was very much at the request of the world or some large part of it. Somalia in 1993, the Balkans later in the 1990s, in 1980 we deployed forces to the Sinai Peninsula at the invitation of Egypt and Israel as part of the Camp David Peace Accords, and in 1982 to Lebanon as part of an international peacekeeping force there. There have been plenty of times the US has shoved our well armed noses in places we should not be, but there have also been plenty when we used our powers for good, or at least really tried to....and we definitely needed to be in South Korea to help them against North Korea, the USSR, AND the CCP. 🖖✌

The way I see it, the problems and blunders that the USA has in furthering and protecting its interests throughout the world as well as its conflicts and wars with other nations is no different from those of other empires throughout history.
I do agree that America does have a bad track record in developing pro-USA sentiment in foreign nations. But again, I suppose the same can be said for most if not all other past empires. I'm sure the Romans have tried to but struggled in winning the hearts and minds of other nations.

I don’t begrudge the USA for being so fixated/focused on controlling and maintaining influence over nations that are abundant in oil.
In today’s modern world, oil is arguably THE thing that determines one’s power.
The United States NEEDS oil; that substance is it’s lifeblood (in my opinion). Without oil, it will almost certainly come under threat from its rivals.
World War Two has been described as ‘The First War for Oil.’

If you really want to look at thing`s from a different view, consider this, soon after ww2 america and the rest of the west allies took the line told to them by every ex nazi hook line and sinker, that the russians would kill them in their sleep and wanted to invade, think long hard on this how perfect for every nazi to convince the west , throw a heap load of rubbish and frighten them, what was americas response, marshall plan, bring every ex german soldier back into the military and brush over as much as they could, if you have any interest in how america got to the moon or leaped forward in aircraft look up operation paperclip .You might be surprised how much good ole usa tech came from the good ole nazi`s
