Managing Anger & Frustration (3 Critical Factors)

Показать описание
There is little over a month left in 2020, and it has been some year, to say the least.
Topics such as COVID-19, social justice, the U.S. presidential election have elicited a wide range of emotions in many people.
But perhaps, the strongest emotion for some people has been feelings of anger and frustration about how 2020 has unfolded.

Anger can be a very powerful emotion, and it has been on the rise since mid-March.
And many of you could be frustrated about:
- the ongoing nature of the pandemic that doesn’t have a distinct end
social justice issues
- changes to school and work-life
- and let’s not forget about the usual daily life hassles or difficult life circumstances that still show up
So, while feelings of anger and frustration are on the rise for many people, it’s more than just an unpleasant feeling.
It is actually the most unhealthy emotion you can have.
Today I’m going to talk about three critical steps to help manage feelings of anger and frustration.
First, to better manage feelings of anger, or any other emotion for that matter, it's important to be in an active/willpower stage of change.
During this stage, people are aware there is a problem and are highly motivated to change thoughts and behaviour to achieve a specific result.
Second, when you make a change, it's important to know your why.
And that why needs to be compelling because when you attempt to make a change, obstacles are bound to show up.
So, it's crucial to have a strong reason for wanting to change so you'll be motivated to stay the course and utilize the proper thoughts and behaviours to better manage feelings of anger and frustration.
And for my third and final critical factor for managing anger and frustration, it's important to evaluate your expectations and make sure that they align with what is realistic in a particular situation.
Otherwise, you are setting yourself up to be repeatedly frustrated.
So, I hope you found these steps helpful.
