Показать описание
Helen started cycling at the age of ten, encouraged by her parents who introduced her to a local cycling club. Although she didn't need any encouragement to ride, she was inspired to compete after watching Chris Hoy win the Kilo and Kelly Holmes two gold medals in Athens. Helen completed her A-levels in English, PE and French and embarked on a degree course in Sport, PE and Coaching Science at the University of Birmingham but gave her place up after two weeks when she found out she had been accepted on GB Cycling Team's Sprint Academy. Helen first came to British Cycling as an U23 Sprint Academy rider in November 2008 and then went on to join the GB Para-Cycling Team in April 2010 where she is a tandem pilot working alongside visually impaired female riders known as 'stokers'. Helen has medalled in a strong field in the National Track Champs year after year and was the National Champion in the women's team sprint in 2009. In her first Paralympic Games, Helen won the silver in the kilo and bronze in the pursuit, both with Aileen McGlynn.
