I love MM even more than ever after this. She is empathic and respectful at the same time. Very rare to witness

I wish I could give both of these people a hug ... and a hug to the woman who is guiding them through learning how to read.

Many years ago my son was asked by his former primary school headmaster if he would try and teach a truck driver in his 40's to read.
The books he was supposed to teach from were boring to the man and he lost interest quickly so in desperation my son took along his own old Dr. Seuss books to use instead.
The truck driver loved them and learned to read them all. He was able to read them to his children which gave him a sense of pride.
Unfortunately he stopped the lessons at that point and although we never got the books back, it didn't really matter because they had helped someone achieve a goal.

We are all (especially UK and AU) so lucky to have Miriam

NEVER too late to learn. Good on the tutor for taking the time to do it.

These are bloody brave people who have travelled further than most of us will ever experience. MM is a joy- to be that supportive and empathetic without a sniff of condescension is so marvellous to watch.

Omg. So so sad for these people. I hate to think what happened in some of the foster homes. Thanks Miriam

Back in the 90s my husband and I volunteered as adult literacy teachers at our local college. It's astonishing how many people in this day and age still are unable to read or write properly. Our students were older people. They had similar experiences to these two people, being told absolutely awful things and that they were useless.

Great share by the two legends, very brave. Sadly, it's still happening today in 2022.

Love this part of the episode but perhaps the lovely Miriam could have picked up the cue given by the tutor to not insist on using the trigger word of teacher.
