I actually found the folklore of tiyanaks interesting. I like the concept that it takes advantage of a human's natural instinct to protect infants and use it as their hunting method. Note that tiyanaks can be babies that become demons (as seen in the movie), demons / changelings that use this method of camouflage as their hunting method, or even earth-bound / laman-lupa "dwarves" (dwende, pronounced du-wen-de) who perform this... with the latter 2 implying that they're not real babies
the method of "creating" a tiyanak has also developed over time, and it reflects the Filipino culture very well XD the 1st method is when a pregnant woman dies before giving birth, which is similar to the Malaysian Pontianak (note that Malaysian settlers landed in the Philippines years ago... so their influence to our culture is present). When Spain introduced Christianity to our culture, tiyanaks are now also believed to be born from babies who died before they are baptized. Later on, it was also believed that babies aborted will also create a piyanak. Funny how it evolved with the times, unlike Mananaggals and Aswangs where their creation remains consistent all these years. Driving away a tiyanak has some Chinese influence as well, as they are scared of fireworks and will flee an area thats too noisy
Although defeating a tiyanak HAS remained consistent all these years... and its close to how most other folklore creatures are defeated: through items that can purify (i.e garlic, ash etc) or Christian items PROVIDED your devotion is high enough... but it can also be laid to rest by giving it a name, baptizing it (good luck getting close tho O.O ) or straight up destroying it like in the movie... but it IS always depicted as something difficult to do

This was an installment (episode) on one of the Shake, Rattle and Roll horror movies (I remember Nanay or mother being the other which is about a sea monster ending up on the local water supply)

I didn’t even think this creature even had a movie to its name nice I want to see a movie where the Mandurugo(the vampire Bird women) get a spotlight. I remember seeing these gals in the blade anime series.
