Today I saw a tweet about a 4 digit player who quit osu! because of the general toxicity of the community so wanted debate whether or not the osu! community is really that toxic or not. On twitter you can often find arguments, osu! drama and all sorts of stuff so yea. Enjoy!

ive played this game for 2 years now and every time i interact with the in game community in multis they are always really kind and nice. its definetly one of the tamer communities in comparison with games like league or cs where its just toxicity anywhere you go.

The Off-Topic forum community (a subforum on osu!) is pretty nice, as long as you're not a complete weirdo, it's fun to hang out and enjoy it's culture.

I have seen both sides and yes there will always be toxicity in a community no matter the size or genre it is.

Pretty sure a bunch of players experience the toxicity from fellow osu players. But that doesnt discourage us from not playing the game. Just seperate the two things.

You will still meet the right people eventually. From tournaments, servers, social media, etc. Might as well have a great bond and relationship that will be memorable.

Usually the osu! community is really nice until someone brings up their favorite top player. Top players as a topic is probably where 90% of the toxicity comes from. The youtube comments of players clips are where most of it comes from is what I've noticed.

I used to be apart of the Minecraft factions community. There it’s commonplace to be ddosed, doxxed and even swatted. So honestly everytime I see someone call this cute little osu community toxic I laugh

I only recently started using twitter and that’s where I’ve seen the only occurrences of the community being as much of a cesspool as people make it out to be. Before that my only interactions were through multiplayer lobbies and I always met great people there

As an osu mapper / tournament organizer/ tournament player, I've maybe seen like 2 or 3 toxic people out of thousands since I've started playing (mid 2019) I'm pretty surprised that some people would find our community toxic, but hey, everyone's opinions are different :)

As someone who joined the osu community not to long ago I find this community great, I've made some really nice friends and can interact with people I would've never know prior to being in this community, but I still keep myself near my close friends I trust and that's what let's me have fun with anything. Also nice to have people read my Re:Zero tweets XD

It's been 1 or 2 years since i played this game and i barely interact others in community chat, but when i do, a lot of people are nice and make jokes and help others how to gain more pp or advance their play style, i would say that it's very wholesome

got banned.. proved my innocence.. got ignored ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
if anyone's toxic it's the osu!staff

This is very relatable. It's a common reason to quit a game, due to a community being unwelcoming, and being disrespectful towards others.

It is sad that it happens in osu!, but it's good that it isn't the only game or other thing where its community is bad. BUT, having such groups still remains very bad.

This is why you have to enjoy what you like or do, as a small group, or friends if you have some

this is actually so untrue. playing osu changed my whole life, i made a lot of friends and even a lot of them are not russians like me, that i couldn't even think is gonna happen before. when i tried playing tournaments all stuff and most of members were actually chill and kind persons. when i played quals in lobby with chicony my internet went crazy and interrupted the whole match so i was apologizing to chicony and staff. second one was kindest person i've ever met saying things like "you are the same player here as chicony" meaning that everyone is just playing and enjoying the game and tournament and it's fine to have problems with setups

i agree and it was the first thing i thought maybe check reddit bc they score post and thats interesting but this games community especially on twitter is ridiculous that ive never joined it or anything bc it just wasnt good i even stopped talking in general chat for osu bc like it wasnt the same as it was in september 2020 legit i used to love chatting bc it was so wholesome

Solution to toxicity: stay away from twitter and reddit

I joined Osu in 2014 and I quit in early 2022. The community has definitely become somewhat more toxic than it was when I first started that's a definite. But that's bound to happen over time as a game becomes more and more popular. However I will say, the ratio of toxic players vs non-toxic players is a pretty big gap. It's quite rare to get a toxic player in a multi now, most players are fairly nice and considerate towards others, esp newer players.

Community's pretty good but still gotta look out for each other cuz theres some pretty unfortunate **** that happens (although I myself do not see much toxicity directly, I do see some of the periphery and after affects). Glad you made a video tho, it's always better to have discussions rather than leave stuff in the dark 👍

If anyone has played warframe or is playing warframe the community there is the most wholesome community ever. I haven't had a single bad interaction in that game be it with new players or veterans of the game. It's basically the other end of the spectrum comparing it to something like league of legends. In that god damn game getting a positive interaction is harder than winning the lottery.

For me personally, I never had an toxic encounters but that’s because I don’t interact with the community like you said. The only sort of news I consistently see are your videos from time to time and mrekk new plays. That’s about it. I got banned from twitter for a joke I said towards my friend and I didn’t feel like making a new account so I deleted it. As for Reddit, the only thing I use it for is looking for ROMS for console emulators and stuff like that. I play osu! And I enjoy it but I am not part of the community in any way shape or form.
