This is not 20/20 hindsight but rather common sense. Boston should have NEVER allowed Betts to walk. Players like Betts are a special and very rare breed. In fact they only come around every twenty years or so. Betts was Boston’s Franchise Player and they watched him walk away while holding a bag of baseballs in their left hand and scratching their azz with the other hand. It’s quite obvious Red Sox owner John Henry has a greater affection for his Soccer Team than the Red Sox. After this season’s last place finish in the A L East the fans need to shun the team entirely because they have most definitely hit ROCK BOTTOM.

For that much money Betts should be MLB’s best hitter for power and average, best fielder, best base runner and stealer, and best player overall. Although Betts is a great player and I’m ecstatic he plays for my favorite team the Dodgers, that amount of money for being a hitter with a .280 batting average and only 33 homers is ridiculous! This coming offseason, especially if the Dodgers do not win the Series, they better find a way to sign 2 more of the top 5 starting pitchers, because as it stands right now, the Mets would have to be considered to be favorites to win because of deGrom, Scherzer, and Diaz, plus the rest of the Mets starting pitchers were better than the Dodgers other pitchers last series. Also concerning is the overall health of the Dodger’s pitching staff. The fact is, pitching wins Championships and although the Dodgers have had an excellent year, their chances of winning the Series are questionable. Losing Buehler and Bauer, have really hurt them! I hope management realizes after what has happened with the Bauer debacle, how absolutely critical character is in their player selections going forward. Just look at San Diego’s situation with Tatis, the importance of quality of character can never be discounted going forward! May God bless the Dodgers this post season because they are not overwhelmingly dominant, especially their pitching is suspect.
