Cormac McCarthy between 1951-1957 experienced an archetypal pattern common to American men. He felt contained by his friends, family, and institution. From 1951-1952 Cormac McCarthy attended the University of Tennessee. After two years of this McCarthy decided to transition to a life in the United States Air Force. In today's video, we will cover Cormac McCarhy's strained relationship with authority, the genesis of his creative urge, and the events that inspired his masterpiece "Suttree."

Cormac McCarthy is an American writer who we consider one of the greatest authors of all time. He was born in Rhode Island but was raised and wrote his initial works in Tennessee. Hi Ian! In the earlier video on Outer Dark you mentioned that CM used to keep a daily word quota. Could you please elaborate on his former writing routine? Thanks

Yeah, it's odd.... I can't recall a single mention of Alaska in any of his works, though he seems to have mentioned every other place he ever lived.
