In January 2023, the days of clean drinking water flowing through Uruguay's taps were numbered.
The combined effects of climate change - including months without rain, impacts of La Niña and soaring summer temperatures severely impacted Uruguay's water supply. Addressing such crises is complex and determining the best way to respond can be challenging. Uruguayan Red Cross was the first National Society to implement the DREF for assessment, a new modality introduced by IFRC-DREF in 2022.
