I watched Young Frankenstein with my son for the first time only this last weekend, just a couple of days before she passed. I watched it dozens of times growing up before even Blockbuster existed as it was one of the few movies they had at our local library. Teri Garr was only a very small part of my childhood, but she was great: funny, talented and beautiful.

You can see why Carson and Letterman loved having her on: Teri Garr effortlessly grabs your attention, she's funny, engaging and ready to go wherever the hosts want to go... And then takes it a step further. If there's a Mount Rushmore of top tier late night guests she's right up there with Martin Short, Tom Hanks and Nathan Lane.

Great interview on both sides. You can see how much improved Conan was as an interviewer by this time as Teri kept you on your toes.

R.I.P. to Teri Garr. I always thought she was very pretty, since the original Star Trek that she was in. Best Wishes to her friends and family. ❤

Poor Teri-she is SO underrated. Even when they realise how amazing she is, she is STILL underrated. One of the funniest most talented actresses and funniest performers ever.

I feel compelled to correct this information as a Monkees fan, and I’m surprised Conan was this ignorant about them. The Monkees were not allowed to play, for the most part, on their first two albums, against their will, because they could actually play from the beginning, and did play their own instruments live on their concert tours which began soon after the series premiere. Mike Nesmith could not only play guitar but was a pretty successful and first-rate songwriter before joining the group, Jones could actually play drums though they gave that job to Dolenz for commercial reasons, and Tork was a very accomplished multi-instrumentalist, on guitar, bass, banjo, all keyboards and a number of brass instruments who did play guitar on Nesmith’s songs on the first album, at Nesmith’s request and unbeknownst to Don Kirshner. And by the time of Head, they’d played their own gear on three previous albums, supplemented by other musicians as were many bands then but that they didn’t play their own instruments at all especially by the time of Head in 1968 is a myth I’m surprised to see perpetuated here thirty years later. It wouldn’t be important except that they not only played them, they were pretty good at it.

I remember her most from Young Frankenstein and Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Also, “From the people that gave you Head” is just brilliant 😂

Among other talents, she was the queen of talk show guests for 50-some years and such a lovely person overall.
