Biden vows to 'buy American', esp. for federal projects as US trade deficit hits record high in 2022

US President Joe Biden vowed to 'buy American' during State of the Union speech on Tuesday local time, insisting it's 'totally consistent with international trade rules'. He also announced new standards require all construction materials, such as lumber, glass, drywall, fiber optic cable and so on, used in federal infrastructure projects to be made in America.

Biden made the same 'buy American' promise in his 2022 State of the Union speech.

Earlier that day, US Bureau of Economic Analysis and Census Bureau announced a record-high goods and services trade deficit in 2022, hitting 948.1 billion dollars.
