3. Sense and test the conductivity of the silver (coin) e. g. with an icecube and do the pingtest with coins. (not perfectly reliable for both silver and gold) 6:35

4. Test the weight, measurement and dimension (best on coins, 1 ounze coins have a standardized minimum weight and coins have certain measurements) 10:58

5. Test the specific gravity with a pot of water (divide weight (in grams) by the volume (in cm³)), pretty much accurate. 15:36

You failed to point out that gold plated Tungsten will fool your specific gravity test because it will test to within the margin of error you give because Tungsten, being so very close to the same density as gold, is often the choice of counterfeiters.

As BYB says these are good tests for the beginner. As a seasoned eBay gold and silver buyer the first thing to say to new stackers is keep well away 92% of the gold bars sealed in credit card package are counterfeit. I can now normally tell from the pictures. I still return two or three fake coins and bars a week. As for the serous stacker if you are buying from anywhere except a recognised billion dealer you need a good precious metals verify like the Sigma Pro. As with the tests above they will not detect gold plated tungsten, coins in slabs or bars in sealed assay cards. I've made 3 very amateurish video's on fake silver Coins and bars if anyone is interested enough. Keep safe keep stacking.

Iv been buying gold and silver for over 15 years, I have some up for sale and someone asked me for a Assay on a 10 ounce Amark silver bar? I didn't know what it was until I Googled it, I have over 1400 ounces of silver rounds none of witch have any documentation delivered with them, I have only ever bought coins of reputable bullion dealers, the man clearly doesn't know what he is talking about? You hardly need paperwork for every coin, I mean you dont need paperwork to prove the euro or pound notes you have in your wallet are really. What do you say to someone in this position? I got all panicked and when and got the dimensions of the bar online and with only a measuring tape found the dimensions spot on 90.2mill 52.2mill 7.1mill, now keeping in mind it was a measuring tape a bit crude but it satisfied me that it was a really bar of silver. Surly a peace of paper Is 1k time easier to forge than a bar of metal 🙈

What would happen if a fake coin was the correct weight? 1 Troy Ounce. Would the result of the density test state that a fake coin was authentic?

Something that jumped out to me is that only one of the four tests will work with gold bars ... and most people don't like the idea of taking their gold bars out of the assay packaging. So, that shoots the last test down for those. That's why I don't like to buy gold bars in assay packaging. When it comes to gold, I only buy coins. If someone wants to create a good fake gold bar, all they have to do is create a good fake assay package. Stay away from bars like your mother told you. Even if you buy your gold bar from a reputable dealer, what will happen you go to sell that gold bar ... how will the buyer know it's real? Only with a Sigma Verifier...and that really limits your audience.

I read somewhere that you should use distilled water for the SG test....is that true?
