We all know what happened when Jerry Smith declared "Pluto is a planet!"

Careful, the Plutonians might beam you up.

I say pluto is a planet and it has always Been a planet

Pluto's a planet, always has been.😁 Thank you Video from Space 👍❤️

Because there are no clear boundaries to the concept of a planet, we just have to be able to deal with the concept of planetness. Pluto has plenty of the right stuff. Easily qualifies.
We can have rogue planets, flung out into interstellar space. Still an effing planet. Deal with it, vogons. A planet can even be so big it starts to have starness.

0:37 he has a point.
If that’s the case, Mars and above would be dwarfed

I've reported this video to the Hayden Planetarium. Neil will be dispatched shortly. 🤣

The world just can’t decide... planet or not?

The solar system consists of the Sun, four planets, and assorted debris.

I KNEW IT!, PLUTO IS ACTUALLY A PLANET!!
xian_roblx
Just because Pluto is cool, I would agree with Bridenstine. I feel like demoting it only discourages more science missions to the (dare I say it) planet.

Our solar system has 11 planets
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Aaturn
Uranus
Neptune
Pluto
Eris
Planet X [even tho its called planet 9] if it exist i call it the 11th planet. And i do think planet x exist

Saying Pluto isn't a planet because it's too small is like saying that a city isn't a city if it isn't the capital of a country.
I think we could call all natural objects 'planets', like you can call all cities 'cities'. You might teach children about the major cities of your country, but certainly not every single village. I think rather than dwarf planets being totally seperate from large planets, 'planet' should just be an umbrella term. Pluto is a very small planet, and so are Eris, Haumea, Makemake, etc.
If you wanna refer to just Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune, just say 'major planets', like you say 'major city'.
I say even though Pluto isn't a 'major planet', it's still important and should be taught in schools as the first Kuiper Belt object discovered. And rather than presenting the major planets as a strict list, they should be presented as the more prominent parts of a larger system.
Anyways, that's my two cents on the matter. Lemme know (respectfully) if you disagree :)

Just because the americans discovered this object and get pride for this, otherwise nobody would have noticed or gives a fuck.
testimonialicochique
Scroopy noopers won't be happy to hear this
joeridgley
What about Haumea, Makemake, Ceres and Eris?
zanthraxnl
I'm pretty sure I've seen this episode before.
Crackpot_Astronaut
of course he says this because new horizons wouldn't be such a great mission if it just flew by some dwarf planet instead of an actual planet lol. pluto doesn't care what some earthlings think it is ;)
worldstar
I think it would be really funny if they actually find that planet they say is far out there and it doesn’t meet the bullshit definition of a planet and it’s bigger then earth
