For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is a largely forgotten album in the Van Halen discography. Like many of the Sammy Hager fronted Van Halen albums, history hasn't been kind to it. That doesn't take away from the fact that this is a very hard rocking album that has some great moments on it. I think this is arguably the greatest sounding album of the entire discography. The drum and bass tone are HUGE sounding.
316 is one of the quieter moments on the record. It is dedicated to his newborn son Wolfgang. It's a very beautiful and simplistic piece of music which perfectly captures a father's love for his son. It's performed on an acoustic guitar which sounds like it's plugged-in. I don't have an Acoustic/Electric guitar...Yet, so I appropriately performed it on my Van Halen Wolfgang guitar.
