Black Pumas - Colors ‘Take 2A (uncut)’ at Capitol Studio A

Recently I managed to obtain a US vinyl Test Pressing from the Capitol Cuts release (released back in 2021).

After the first time listening to the record on my turntable I was pleasantly surprised with the little studio chit chat in between the songs.

Capitol Cuts was announced as an intimate, experiential series that featured our favorite artist (Black Pumas) recording live to vinyl in the legendary Capitol Studios. Live, one take, recorded direct to disc.

Through this Test Pressing I came to learn that a few songs needed a few takes before the band nailed it and had a version worthy to be featured on the record.

Here we have Colors, which is announced as Take 2A, on which Eric initially messes up the intro of the song.

SE: Aight here we go…player up

SE: Aight here we go…action!

EB: Oh shit I’m sorry, I’m playing like way ahead of the beat. My bad Steve, sorry…

SB: Just wait another…

SE: Keep rolling guys…

SB: Keep waiting a couple of more beats before you go ahead…

EB: Okay cool yeah yeah…

SE: We’re rolling on the ear guys too…
