I wasn't born until 12 years after this song was recorded. But I've been damn glad since the day I found it and make sure my kids are well versed on the gospel of Steely Dan.

Those were such great years for music back then. Such memories.

One of the best things the United States has ever given the world.

One of my favorite bands of all time. Grew up with the 70’s music. Being a studio band only toured once back in the 70’s and I caught that at The Palace Theater, Waterbury. Now I hear they are doing shows.

I absolutely love this tune!I'm listening to this almost 44 years after it was recorded and it sounds even better to me now than when I was a teenager.A timeless killer song IMO.The lead guitar just slays me, but the rhythm section kills it as well.

Another song I like from these guys... feedback and echo on vocals and wild funky guitar playing! Badass guitar jam !

Nice to see I'm not the only one who was thinking of this song today.

"Steely Dan Gets Pulled Over By a Fan"
As the blue lights flashed, Donald pulled their 1962 Lark to the curb. The New York City officer asked Donald, "70 in a 35, goin' to Arcturus?" He then said, "License and registration." Recognizing the name and their faces, he pulled off his cheaters and said, "I'm a huge fan." Greatly relieved, Walter spoke from the passenger side, "What's your favorite song?" The policemen replied, "Parker's Band." I wish I could have learned to work the saxophone." Donald jokingly said, "You've chosen a glamour profession instead." Not too thrilled with that jab, Officer Jackson retorted, "I'm just a man with a gun, and I don't want to shoot no one.” Quickly realizing his attempt at humor failed, Donald said, "Well, you certainly are a champion in my eyes.” Officer Jackson asked them if could search the car. After the search, he laid down down the law. He said, "I’m not going to cite you for an open container or for the suspicious paraphernalia or for the busted taillight. Instead I’m going to reduce your speeding ticket to a 69 in a 35. Yeah, the hangman isn't hangin.' Have a nice day, "

I'm a 70s/80s child. Steely Dan ruled my casette player. This song taught me early to keep my jobs close to food and poop. Couple more Black Fridays have come and gone, and we're in our worst ever yet. I'm thankful to be among the still-employed, even if the "catch" is the gray man from the 14th floor.
Come one, all fall, we got bouncy landing pads, and a clean bathroom stall.
Signed,
State Parks Janitors. 🐇🪁

What is exceptional about this is that it is one of the few songs where Walter does the lead guitar and he really puts some dynamic licks in the bridge especially. Very sadly missed as a wonderful talent. Rest in peace Walter Carl Becker: (1950-2017).

Seen it live in Dallas, last concert with all of them...great experience.

Walter himself on lead guitar. WOW. Usually, he played bass and let others (Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Denny Dias, Larry Carlton, etc.) do lead. Again, WOW.

I heard this song driving up to a state park with my wife about eight years ago. It was on Black Friday. It was my birthday. We hiked up this mountain trail, and met a dude in his 60's with his family. I said it's my birthday today. He said "me too!" What are the odds? Was such a cool day!
